This is a guest post, reprinted in its entirety with permission of the author, Yerachmiel Bruchya HaLevi Altman. FIRST STEP IS GO TO PHARMACY AND SEE IF THEY ARE MEDICARE PROVIDER for Durable Medical Equipment (DME). IF SO – ask if they have the forms needed for insulin as DME when using a pump. If […]
Diabetes is not a game, but far too often, those living with the chronic disease are a footnote in the policy playbook and sacked in the middle of a political football field. But thanks to DPAC, the Diabetes Patient Advocacy Coalition, there’s Tweet-In Thursday, an opportunity for those living with Type 1, Type 1.5, Type […]
This is where the rubber meets the road, my T1 story, truths and life on June 18, 2015. I had the pleasure of being a guest on The Sheena Metal Experience with Sheena Metal. Sheena graciously allowed me to provide a snapshot of my life living with type one diabetes and a soapbox to encourage […]
Here’s an episode of Inside My Blue World and my take on where things stand with H.R. 5644, a bill to have Medicare cover the cost of Continuous Glucose Monitoring devices. listen to ‘Inside My Blue World – CGM Legislative Update February 2015’ on audioBoom
I am proud to debut Medicare and Mondays, my musical, impassioned, plea to Congress to pass H.R. 5644, the Medicare CGM Access Act of 2014.* H.R. 5644 would have Medicare cover the cost of Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) devices. CGM technology is a life-saver for many diabetics, including yours truly, who are insulin-dependent.
A petition created by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) underscores the legislation’s importance and urgency.
The continuous glucose monitor (CGM) has been shown to improve glucose control — preventing dangerous high and low blood sugars — and is recommended by national diabetes clinical guidelines and covered by nearly all private health plans.
However, Medicare does not yet cover CGM devices, leaving seniors with insulin-dependent diabetes vulnerable to high rates of hospitalization and emergency room visits.
Please, please please share the video, spread the word and sign the JDRF petition urging Medicare to provide coverage for CGM technology.
This singing sister of the pump thanks you!
*Update: This bill died in Congress, but a new bill, H.R. 1427 Medicare CGM Access Act of 2015, was introduced on March 18, 2015. Please subscribe to this blog for my updates.
This is where the rubber meets the road, my T1 story, truths and life on December 2, 2014. An exciting day today with a few friends for a video shoot on a topic that has many long-term type ones up in arms. In fact, ever since the day my insurance rep told me that Medicare […]
This is an issue that has many type ones up in arms. So I decided to write this letter to the president: November 19, 2014 Dear Mr. President, I know you’re a busy man, so let me cut to the chase. I have been a type 1 diabetic for 47 years. Unfortunately, as often happens […]
