This is an issue that has many type ones up in arms. So I decided to write this letter to the president:
November 19, 2014
Dear Mr. President,
I know you’re a busy man, so let me cut to the chase. I have been a type 1 diabetic for 47 years. Unfortunately, as often happens with diabetics of long term duration, major complications have set in. I have had a four vessel bypass at age 47, and now, at age 62, my stomach is paralyzed, and I am unable to maintain balance in postural changes due to the affect of the diabetes on the vagus nerve. With complications of this nature, it is imperative that I maintain the best blood glucose possible. After many years of living with the disease, my body no longer has the ability to alert me to falling glucose levels until they have become dangerously low. One way in which this burden is eased for me is with the use of a CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitoring). I am currently covered by Medicare through disability, however, I have been told that they will no longer cover the CGM for me. I know that there is currently a bill in Congress (Medicare CGM Access Act of 2014), sponsored by Senator Susan Collins, that would have Medicare cover it. It is currently being reviewed by the committee on finance. I beg you to help me, and others like me, who have fallen into a forgotten sector.
My father, Colonel Raymond S. Isenson, served as the Army advisor to Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara during the Cuban Missile Crisis. My son, Daniel L Ratner- E7,currently serves as well. The family has always had America’s best at heart. I have been an avid supporter of the Democratic party, and of you, Mr. President. I made phone calls for you, and I knocked on doors for you, because I believed that you were exactly what our country needed. I have not changed my mind. Thank you for taking the time to read this. It would really make me rest easier to know that Democrats continue to run the country. God bless you, and God bless America.
Always In Your Corner,
Bonnie Hope Sher
